May’n Interview can be Boosted by these Questions.
Popularity: 7% [?] Published by tj_han November 1st, 2008 in CultureIt’s out. May’n’s long-awaited and highly-anticipated (by a small group of otakus) interview filtered through Darkmirage is out for the world to read. And as expected, none of the questions chosen were of any significance and the answers were so generic I suspect May’n used a Bot to answer it.
This is why I cannot fathom the reason people would want to do "interviews" with her. It’s obvious that as an up and coming pop star targeted to the mainstream crowd, she and her PR gang cannot afford to have any cultural faux pas in their answers, and since they aren’t familiar with the intricacies of non-Japanese culture, it’s pretty certain they’ll stick to the safe answers.
The interview can be summarised with a "I like taiyaki, I can play piano, I have heard of roti prata, and I like to sing." She probably has answered the same questions from Japanese journalists a zillion times.
Now here are some questions that should be asked but will never be answered.
- Are you quitting school to be a singer? What if you fail? Then you’ll be stuck in a karaoke bar as a singer without paper qualifications!
- How does it feel to become famous? Do you still have real friends?
- Did you actually work face to face with the cast and crew of Macross F? Or did you just record the songs and have them sent over?
- Why did you accept a role of just "singing voice of Sheryl"? What benefits do you think it will bring you?
- If a girl isn’t pretty but can sing really well, can she be a pop star in Japan?
- Are you repulsed by a horde of screaming otaku?
- What do you feel about your tickets costing the same or more than established artistes with a far larger following?
- Tell us about what being a pop star is about. What is the workload like? What kind of activities is "work"?
- Tell us about any scary fan encounters or scandalous insider gossip about the entertainment business.

Do not use any < and > for your own sake. It will end the comment there and then. Also, there is an automatic IQ filter which weeds out comments made by those who accidentally got transported from the stone age.

Frankly, I didn’t see anything interesting about the interview. Those answers look like they were taken out of a 10-year-series for the subject of Pop Idol Interviews. “Memorise these answers and you’ll never go wrong!”
You really should have submitted these questions!
No, the point is even if we did, and I’m sure the many people who submitted questions will have thought of even better ones, May’n (or most likely her minder), will just choose those which are easy to answer. This is why email interviews with celebrities are useless.
“If a girl isn’t pretty but can sing really well, can she be a pop star in Japan? ”
Well she definitely can, as proven by May’n herself, who isn’t the slightest bit pretty at all.
Democracy = Hypocrisy
Wait…
I’m pretty sure they won’t have made it past the question firewall that is AFA.
Its ok.
I guess no one really cares.
At least it’s a very politically correct Q&A.
Too bad about the interview. I agree that your questions would’ve made it far more interesting. I would also have asked more about working with Kanno and Nakajima.
Please set up an interview company that asks questions such as these. With the growing trend, it might just launch off - it’s barely lewd and intrusive, just realistic and wholistic.
Think of it as a one of those “NIGHT WITH ____” shows in the USA where they get people to fight on camera,

but without the vulgar and obscene acts. Wit is win.
