I guess it really shows that even if Jesus drew your anime, it’ll still be a shit one if its made by GONZO. Having seen the latest trailer of Shangri-La, I’m having serious 2nd thoughts about how much I’ll like it.

1. The music doesn’t seem that good, but sometimes they grow on us. At least it’s not Ali Project. Phew!

2. The lousy CG is back! Even in the trailer, you can see they intend to use their trademark GONZO crap CG on the mechanical objects like the tanks.

3. I thought it would be somewhat realistic sci-fi, but no, a boomerang that cuts through tanks thrown by a little girl in a short skirt who can jump as high as Spiderman.

4. Speaking of short skirts, hers defies gravity and wind resistance, in a unrealistically tasteful way. In other words, there aren’t any panties shots when in real life, wearing a tiny skirt and freefalling in mid-air will surely invert said skirt? Anyway, a good example is Rideback, where Ogata Rin’s skirt actually somewhat follows physics and her panties are shown in a bid to have some degree of realism, rather than just purely for fanservice’s sake.

5. The animation appears to be quite sucky but I guess it’s TV, not OVA and Gonzo’s broke.

6. Examples of great character design which couldn’t save rubbish anime = Most of Keiji Goto and wife’s productions, such as Real Bout High School, Utakata and Kiddy Grade. Most are by GONZO. Can Range Murata’s magic work?

Hey but the OP is quite good! OK I’m starting to think it could be good again. The character designs are great though the villain looks exactly like Delphine from Last Exile. Why do the fucking tanks explode?

The OP shows off Range Murata’s 3 main types of characters: Cute young girls, exotically dressed fancy clothed alienish girls, and guys/girls in black uniforms.

I also think the song is not bad now.

I wasn’t bothered when the super boomerang cut through the barrels of two tanks, OK some self-defense in the sci-fi world, but I literally guffawed when said tanks exploded because of it! It’s like in harem anime where the girl loses one button on the cuff of her sleeve and suddenly all her clothes shred!

Not that I think that makes a bad anime, I just wanted to point out what I thought was randomly hilarious.

I think the OP is great!…Song and visuals are quite good but I will hold judgement until I see the actual episode.

At the risk of sounding an apologist - all Gotoh did for RBHS was the character designs and OP, and Uta Kata was by HAL so that’s only one of three. The other series he was instrumental in the production of (other than character designs and animation) was Gigantic Formula which is again not Gonzo.
Kimura never seems to get any love.

The OP is from May’n who is the singing voice from Sheryl from Macross Frontier. It sounds okay but it’s hard to judge from a 16s clip. Let’s cross our fingers and hope for the best lol.

I’ve watched the full OP at TAF. The full OP was much much better. On my side, the OP makes me want to watch the anime.

Shiroi Hane, that’s what I said didn’t I? I said pretty character designs alone won’t make a good anime. I forgot about Gigantic Formula though, which I watched. Still bad but not that bad. Also because if you have a husband, then all your work are belong to him I guess.

Mechbear, yeah the full OP was posted up as the first comment which I’ve since watched. Agreed, it seems quite good now. This shows how bad that CM was.

XT: I forgot it’s May’n. I must be getting old. The full OP has a better version of the song, so yeah it’s quite ok.
