The similarities are striking, with GA also being adapted from that kind of manga and featuring a group of girls doing their hobby. But unlike K-ON, which was a bit mundane, dull and unfunny, GA is not only educationally informative, it is also very witty and well-written gag-moe style. In fact I would think it’s probably a lot funnier than Lucky Star (not that it was funny), with similar character designs.

The genre is slice of life gag comedy moe, and features 5 girls. Considering there are only 2 manga volumes, the 12 episode length seems just right. The production is by AIC Plus which I have no idea how related to AIC it is. Possibly off-shore branch featuring Korean slaves? Anyway, the animation is nice and cute, there is only a small cast, of which even the side characters are voiced by veteran popular seiyuu, not to mention the juicy lead roles are all the A-listers.

The ever-present this season Tomatsu Haruka, veteran cutie Horie Yui, once-child-prodigy Sawashiro Miyuki, Kaori "Eureka" Nazuka, and the divorced ex-wife of Conan’s author, Takayama Minami are in the show, and some of them really break their typecast roles. Tomatsu isn’t a tsundere at last, and instead she’s the typical shy Noto-Mamiko type voice. I completely thought it was Noto at first. Miyuki is in her boyish mode, like as in Kurenai. Kaori plays the silent loli genius ever present in anime.

I strongly recommend this show if you’re into the moe comedy, it’s really quite well done, and this is high praise considering I’m not a big fan of the genre.

I saw the trailer over at randomc and was shocked, *shocked* that wasn’t Noto. Haruka Tomatsu is amazing.

I wasn’t sure what to think of this, because I didn’t particularly like the character designs (I know, dumb reason, right?), but having read your post, it sounds like it’s right up my alley.

i just watched and i loved is very funny, i’m a designer too and i found it so freaking enterteiment that i will continue watching this serie. Just the only thing that i does not agree is that k-on should look like this, they are two different genders (music/arts) i found k-on very very enterteiment, funny and mybe is not so informative like G.A. about the theme inself but they are ttrying in their way to wake up the interest of the young people to theese professions (music and design), they are not hobbies… c’mon a rock band isnt a funny if your really planned to live from it, and design arent a hoobie either, is the most important of all media…. well thats all.. i think we cannot discredit the work of theese people.

    have a good day

Actually I don’t think it was half as funny or moe as K-On

nope definitely not as moe as k-on. i realize some people have some tastes that are very out there… but dont worry, it’s nothing to be ashamed of. although it’s still quite funny and entertaining granted ive only seen 1 episode, give it some time and it might turn into something :)
