Everyone will lose his/her form once in a while and get sick of their passion. So how can we revive the old flames and get all pumped up over cartoon action again? Simple. Follow any of these ten steps.
Danbooru is suffering from severely restricted accessability now.
Don’t watch bad stuff. Lay off the Soul Links, Disgaeas and other black sheep and you’ll be fine after a while.
Trace your roots. What genre do you like best? Get a good COMPLETED show from that category and watch it, even if you have to force yourself to watch the first episode. Chances are, you’ll end up liking it and marathoning the whole thing.
Stop downloading. The more backlog you accumulate, the more it seems like work to clear it.
Watch comedies. Shows like Sexy Commando Gaiden aka Sugoiyo Masaru-san!, School Rumble and Keroro Gunsou do not require much brainpower and concentration. I find it much easier to click on an episode of Sexy Commando at 2 am when I’m already dead tired compared to say Zipang. The same applies when you are off-anime-form.
Watch inspiring sports anime, preferably the emo and realistic ones. These are totally morale-raising and always end with cliff-hangers each episode, making you push on and watch the next one. I marathoned 45 episodes of MAJOR and it was awesome. Pity the second season looks to be going Prince of Tennis way, but still quite good.
Abandon ongoing series if they begin to suck. Too many people waste their time following over-ripe bananas. It’s ok to not finish a series. Forcing yourself to finish something just saps energy away from other more deserving shows. Btw Inukami rocks.
Get hold of a totally un-anime anime. It’s good to do this when you are tired of the constant cliches, like high school girl pilots, weak joe harem leads, uber-powered and rash protagonists etc. So what’s an un-anime anime? Sunabouzu comes to mind. Rarely has a main character been so disturbingly ecchi, pure evil and underhanded. He even sells a typical macho do-gooder main chara type guy to a gay bar because he wanted to piss him off. Pure genius.
Do short series. Instead of staring up 26 episodes, pick a short but powerful OVA to watch. The ultimate masters in OVA creation, Gainax, has three such series. FLCL, Gunbuster and Diebuster.
Take a day or two off and relax at home. It’s hard to enjoy any show or hobby if you’re stressed and tired from school or work. Alternatively, watch it at work or school.
Finally, do not believe in any hype. The more expectations there are, the more disappointment. Overhyped disappointment will lead you to think, "So this is the best they have to offer? Rubbish. Since everyone says this is the best already, the rest must be worse. Damn anime sucks."
Actually, to cure all anime-sickness, just watch Sexy Commando Gaiden 8 episodes a day. It’s the most powerful animeotic known to mankind. Oh shit, now I’m overhyping it.
