Figure News: Shocking Fate Testarossa 1/8 PVC Figurine!

I was left wide-eyed and mouthed with disbelief when the promo pictures of the Good Smile Company 1/8 Fate Testarossa figurine loaded on my browser. If I’m not mistaken, Baldiche is in its "Assault" mode and Fate’s barrier jacket is in "Lightning" form. I’m very impressed by the sheer size of the blade and the daring ( I say daring because it looks like within two months the sword’ll be touching the floor) pose.

Only such an awkwardly framed picture can show the length of the sword.

GSC Gang has updated its September lineup btw and besides Fate, has Ryogi Shiki of TypeMoon fame. The girl with the ugly dress with a cool dagger. The other notable figurine is Kotona from ZOIDS Genesis in bikini.

The pictures of Fate however seem to be rather unattractive. I would much have preferred Baldiche in Scythe form, since swords are too common. We need evil Scythes. Her barrier jacket seems ugly as well. The face is rather weird and the belt is a bit rigid. We must have been spoilt by the flowing robe of Ignis but Fate just looks really plastic. I’m not sure if this is supposed to go with the Alter Nanoha but my guess is it is. Disappointing really. Scythes rock.

Did I mention that the price is 5,800 yen? The GSC gang have been raising their prices steadily.

  • o yeS i will declare myself フィ倒産 after seeing this

  • OMG! I’m getting this! Although high probability of sword-on-floor-in-2-months is a real concern.

  • “If I’m not mistaken, Baldiche is in its “Assault” mode”

Actually that’s Bardiche Zanbar. Oh and I SO have to find a way to get this! O_O

  • The moeagare, my friends! The moeagare!

  • YES!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! I ALWAYS WANTED A FATE WITH BARDICHE IN ZANBER FORM!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    KITA!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 5800 YEN?! WHAT’S THAT?!

  • I like fate a lot, but I can’t say I’m a fan of the facial expression she is sporting in this figure. It’s looking a bit lifeless to me. And you’re right about the sword. That thing will be a scythe by November.

On the other hand, look at that HOT, HOT ASS.

  • I’m really a bit apprehensive about this one. 5,800 yen is a high price. And most of all, I’m concerned with how GSC and friends are raising the average price of their figurines.

  • It’s Economics. Demand curve shifts up due to expanding consumer base. The price increses as a result. Shit I hate Econs. Engineering FTW.

  • I do know why it’s increasing but I’m saying I do not like it.

But if I was the CEO of GSC, I’ll probably raise my prices too. After all, this period of time is a peak for Otaku expenditure and all their goods sell out like World Cup tickets.

Now we’ll see how the other firms respond. The industry seems to be maturing, with stark differentiation by the various companies starting to kick in. GSC gang seems to be targetting the middle to high range of consumers who aren’t afraid to fork out for quality.

  • Neeeed toooo geeeet it.

Screw the prices. I’m afraid of the sword bending down as well, maybe they’ll provide a stand for it or something. Lol.

  • Actually, compositionally the figurine is badly done. Not only is the sword sticking out too much like Tsubaki pointed out, it’s not goldenratioable unless you count her cape (which you should). But more importantly, it’s difficult to lay out a figurine that takes up so much space to the left. I hope you can somehow magically bend her arms (until they snap) such that she puts Zanbar form behind her a la Strife style or something.

  • However, I’d much more appreciate a Fate figurine done by Alter.

  • I. CAME.

This so needs a Daizengar figure to stand next…

  • Speaking of the ever rising prices, GSC announced that SD Saber today too, and that thing is small and still runs 4,000 yen. Although, Max announced the more modestly prices Elwin figure at 4,800. If it’s under 5,000 yen for a 1/8 scale, I won’t complain.

Also, I called you a bastard on my site. Haha. That’s the good stuff. :D

  • The more I think about it, the more I think GSC won’t be that stupid to produce a figurine that has such an obvious possible-warpage point and still not reinforce it. They’ll have some trick up their sleeve to keep the sword up.

At least, that’s what I hope.

A preview of the GSC 1/8 Nanoha. Think this GSC Fate’s suppose to go along with that.

Much better looking than that Movic Limited Edition BTW.

  • Shit. The GSC Nanoha looks better. Maybe I should sell my Alter’s version.

  • This figure is pure win. Good stuff. Time to jump in and find a way to get it asap.
