Breaking News!! Big Brother’s Watching You…

For those of you wondering about the ODEX fiasco and claiming that they have no ability to find out what individuals have been downloading, think again. Oh btw, Edo Rocket’s quite good really. But is it worth jail time? Possibly.

  • And no, it’s not mine.

  • That’s a lot of Bleach on that list…

  • There’s no PCs in jail. ):

  • So… is it a C&D or outright criminal charge?

  • Looks like a “Let’s meet up outside of court and talk over this nicely if not I’ll eat you alive” letter, doesn’t it? And there are PCs in jails.

  • Wait there were people that thought BT was somehow secure? You can fucking look at the tracker and see who is connected!

  • Ouch….harsh. Hope you don’t get caught.

  • Holy crap that’s alot of inuyasha and bleach there! Jeeze they are really cracking down alright….well atleast its not here…tat would be horrible

  • It doesn’t take that much effort to see what one guy is dl’ng from specified tracker. And those who say BitTorrent is secure is like saying “I can hold done this wildfire with this watering can full of holes”. Yeah maybe a little when using small private trackers without DHT or public announcing of connections encrypted connections. They can’t then _spy_ on you like Section C that would make me believe they have done on someone through public trackers.

Too bad that they want to go after certain people. Also it’s kind of sad that some companies would just like to “defenders of the universe of copyright” and persecute people for copyright infringment for their colleagues that they don’t even have slightest relation to (in business at the least, but what do I know?).

  • Not sure how Singapore copyright law works, but if it’s like the rest of its laws, may God have pity on your soul.

But this just contributes to the global sad state of affairs of our information society.

Wow! I’m in the states, so this won’t affect me right away, but it looks like the future is here. I always wondered whether it would really happen, or if things would stay pretty much the same. I wonder, as I think many do, what will happen to the fansub community? As for me, current plan is to expand the local network and collectively Genghis Khan the connections we have access to, until we have all of the excellent, good, and fair anime to date. Nuclear winter is approaching, or here for some, and I call on all devout otaku to make sure your stockpile is ready.

P.S. I adamantly deny have any illegal files on MY computer.

  • Wow, I guess there’s no denying it now unless you good at deluding yourself about how the world works. It’s sad to hear this and I just wonder how the anime community will take this…

  • Ho shit Lol. Good thing I don’t watch bleach

  • Anime fans say NUTS to ODEX !!

  • Singapore – you’re free to do what we tell you to do.

I’m pretty sure in most other sectors of the world, downloading Bittorrent isn’t a crime.

  • Screw ODEX. I’ll get my anime in DVDs across the causeway, thankyouverymuch.

  • Thats not yours is it?

Somebody need to some up with a proxy server that breaks down a BT file into small packets and sent via HTTP with HTML headers.
    Just an idea.

  • Danny> Isn’t that basically downloading from a Newsgroup?

  • Hey,if you notice, the ISP in this letter is Singnet. I guess everyone should know what this means…

  • Best way to stop illegal d/ls is to BAN ALL BROADBANDS AND CABLES internet connection :D

We have already BAN CHEWING GUMs didn’t we? I am sure we can do that :P That will stop 90% of the SG ppl from d/lings :)
Then they don’t need to catch so many ppl to go to Changi Prison for minor things like copyrights, go directly to the ROOTS OF ALL EVIL, which is that Broadband Connection and the ever increasing speed of DOWNLOADING as advertised by our lovely ISP provider whom once in a while BETRAY it’s clients into signing up and get them fine for downloading stuff lol.

  • 404 error on the link for the .pdf.

    And Starhub sorta banned Bt.

  • This doesn’t bode well for anime watchers like us. I guess i’ll just go back to gaming…with stuffs like Starcraft 2 on the horizon and the recently released C&C3.

  • Goodness, the guy’s son (the downloader) has horrible, horrible taste in anime.

  • Link fixed.

  • HAHA ITS ALL BLEACH!!!

    DIE BLEACH BITCHES DIEEEEE!!!!!

I HAVE ALWAYS HATED DATTEBAYO FOR GIVING FANSUBBERS A BAD NAME. DIE ALL YOU PIRATE FANSUB GROUPS!!!! DROP THE FREAKING SERIES WHEN IT GETS LICENSED IMMEDIATELY FOR HARUHI’S SAKE!!!!

  • Where’s the $2000 fee for the letter?! go talk to them, might not have to goto court…. they are good people, i’m sure they will not bankrupt you…

BTW: its not shocking to know this at all… what is surprising is that this is a cease or decease letter rather than a punishment letter… its basically call you to talk to them… and its all bleach?! and some TC… sad case when they are not even protecting their own local license…

  • Speaking of privacy, if singtel allow Odex to obtain the info of other people’s IP without permission, aren’t they violating the below act…..

    http://www.ida.gov.sg/News and Events/20061124155834.aspx?getPagetype=20

  • Someone pointed out that in Clause 15 of the Singnet TOS, it states that Singnet is allowed to (when you sign up for their service) to issue out your personal information as and when they feel like it and without your consent. So yeah…

  • Then LL liao loh…anyway, guys check out today newspaper, home section, there’s a report on it and the way they interpret it, seem like we are the ‘bad’ guys not them…..

  • Yep, appeared in today’s Straits Times, Home H2. Also in this morning’s Lianhe Zaobao, page 3.

  • anyone else besides me notice that the article in home purposefully stated that i was a singtel user?

  • ya..i read “singnet”………and let’s give a hand of applause for the anime fan who said the great words in the article!! *woot. you go man/girl….and hey..i have no idea ODE* had a sale of “3 DVDs for $9.90 trial offer” going on……..*mosquitoes flies past…

  • ‘GG NO RE’ for the poor dude. The rest of us who are still unscathed, please just lie low for a while for this shit to blow over. BTW, AVPAS website got a list of licensed anime, do go take a peek.

  • Oh Some anime are not inside. That means we could dl them? LOl

  • The ‘sucky’ thing abt the list is that its not accurate, like nanoha, its not even licensed in the US….WTF

  • Seriously speaking, why was the letter signed by ODEX and not AVPAS? They are not longer selling Anime Boxset and become the law enforcer?? Reminds me of Bruce Wayne.

  • im so afraid now.. T_T are we still in trouble? i dont wan get the letter!

  • Hi My friend, I do not know how you get hold of this letter but it’s my son’s and we are in the mist of negotiating for a solution. I sincerly hope you can remove the letters.

    God Bless

  • I like point 5: “Should we not hear from you before 25 May 2007 from the date of this letter (16 May 2007)[...]“. Sounds like they’ve decided to count years from the sending of that letter instead of from the conventional year of birth of Christ, so the deadline actually corresponds to 25 May 4013 in the Gregorian calendar (assuming the Obex calendar also lacks a year 0). You can relax!

  • we have people getting away with knocking out other people’s teeth, whacking others etc…

and now we have people facing fines of $10,000 and imprisonment of up to 5 years… just for downloading anime…

so, who does our law really protect?

  • I think they only target those who download like 20 and above, i don’t think they will be targeting those who downloaded like less than 10.

  • There are some instances that they tergeted even 1 unpopular anime episode download.

there is some organised reverse odex movement going on.
